Sampat Pal Devi is a Married Indian lady who is 52 years in age. She is the founder and leader of a group of women vigilantes in northern India's Uttar Pradesh state's Banda District, called the "Gulabi Gang". We know her since, Sampat Pal Devi is a former government health worker who came into news after the launch of the book “Sampat Pal – A warrior in pink saree” in 2008.

Sampat Pal Devi, a mother of five and a former government health worker found the Gulabi Gang in 2006 as a response to the widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women. It’s not a “gang” in the usual sense of the term. It’s a gang for justice. The group, numbering several hundred women and a few men, use vigilante-style tactics to achieve greater social justice for the poor with its main focus on poor women. Their goal is to strike fear in the hearts of wrongdoers and earn the respect of officials who have the power to initiate positive change. They brandish sticks and axes when the need presents itself. Her work has been noticed, appreciated and publicize by several film and documentary makers including- A documentary called "Gulabi Gang", directed by Nishtha Jain, premiered at the Norwegian Short Film Festival in 2012. A movie called "Pink Saris" has been made about them, directed by Kim Longinotto. Anubhav Sinha is in a process of making another movie on this gang titled” Gulab Gang” In 2008, Oh! Editions published her autobiography “Sampat Pal – A warrior in pink sare”
